Timeline from first symptom to diagnosis

Our son Connor was diagnosed with JDM in January of 2010 and here is a bit of a timeline to show you how this diagnosis was reached...

Towards the end of November 2009, Connor mentioned some pain in his right foot. We found a Plantar Wart and began treating it. We went on vacation in Germany were he mentioned a pain in his knee's, to feeling in his own words, pain 'inside his legs'. By the time we got home on December 9, he needed to be carried almost everywhere. By the end of December he was unable to feed himself, dress himself, sit up or down, lay down and of course walk. Here is a list of tests he went through between December 10 to December 28, 2009

X-ray of his Hips
MRI of his spine
X-ray of his chest
CAT Scan of his brain
CAT Scan of his chest
MRI of his chest
MRI of his hips
Numerous Blood Work
Spinal Tap
and we finished with a Muscle Biopsy

There were many speculations of what might be causing Connor so much pain and one of them was Gullian Barre Syndrom (GBS) due to his first symptoms showing up within a few days of his H1N1 Flu Shot.

The final Diagnosis came on January 11, 2010
-Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM)-

School, Family and Life ... Happy Halloween :)

Wishing you all a wonderful Halloween today:)

According to our two dumplings their FAVORITE 'Holiday' hands down ;) has to be since they think their Mom is a witch - haha - and of course they are right since they think they are real life little Wizards ;) plus I think the Costumes and Candy factor in big time - of course ... :) Alexander told me today that 'Thanksgiving' is his least liked Holiday because all the food during that time is just not good, with the exception of the Sweet Potatoes that include lots of Marshmallows ... I guess I have to work on him to see the true meaning of Thanksgiving and that it is not all about food, but I admit he does have a point ;)

Life has been super busy for us and as of today I signed of on Facebook to free time for my Family. I wish I could say I could limit my FB exposure but as it is I love reading peoples postings and being someone who loves to speak her mind I always felt the need to respond to most postings. I hope you all know you can stay in touch with me through this blog and also the old fashion way by e-mail, phone or texting.

The boys are very busy with School and after School activities as in Theater Practices and Cub Scouts. School has been a true full-time event as we are very busy here at home on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, plus Home School on Tuesdays and Wednesdays that also include Cottage School with Mrs. Struble for three ours from 11:00 to 15:00. Add to that German School in C-Springs each Saturday and our week is maxed out until Sundays come around, our only day 'off'. I have recently started to stay in the class room with the boys on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as it seems to help Mrs. Struble and Connor & Alexander. It seems our dumplings can be easily distracted and also are quiet a handful at times ... which is to be expected with a Mom like me ;) The part of me staying in the class room with them of course took away the little bit of freedom I had as in running errands  or taking a timeout at Starbucks, however everything is about what really matters and if you have kids you know that there is no question of what is more important.

Ron, I am happy to say has been great when it comes to going to the Doctor and getting everything checked out. He went through a two week treatment for a Stomach Virus/Infection with the PrevPac and is finishing the treatment now with daily Nexium. He also had another Blood Test and we are waiting on those results. Tomorrow he will see another Specialist and then of course he still has Therapy twice weekly for his Shoulder. We are both hoping to get back into a good workout routine and we even got up early this morning so we could workout together, he on the Elliptical and me on the Treadmill. I got in two miles and was beat!!! so I am hoping to get myself back into the 5K mindset soon! .. well, I think my mind is there just not my lungs and heart ;)

During times out of school and for a reason I am not completely sure off our two little ones are also in complete fascination of anything and everything football! So you may guess what we now do on Sundays and Monday nights? Ron of course is thrilled about this as he finally gets to watch Football again, now that he has two supporters in this quest. I am still not sure about the whole game and I sure have no clues about the rules but found that I love to pick the opposite team my three men pick just for the fun of it. Another great thing about Football Sundays and Monday Night Football is the fact I get a lot of time to read books :) I do however love the Packers as WI was my original US Birth Place ;) so no compromise on this one ...

Hoping all of you are doing well and I will try to up-date the Blog once a week just to keep you all in the loop.

Below are the Connor & Alexander's 2011/2012 School Pictures ... goodness, I am still wondering where the chubby Cheeks went?

Hugs!
