Timeline from first symptom to diagnosis

Our son Connor was diagnosed with JDM in January of 2010 and here is a bit of a timeline to show you how this diagnosis was reached...

Towards the end of November 2009, Connor mentioned some pain in his right foot. We found a Plantar Wart and began treating it. We went on vacation in Germany were he mentioned a pain in his knee's, to feeling in his own words, pain 'inside his legs'. By the time we got home on December 9, he needed to be carried almost everywhere. By the end of December he was unable to feed himself, dress himself, sit up or down, lay down and of course walk. Here is a list of tests he went through between December 10 to December 28, 2009

X-ray of his Hips
MRI of his spine
X-ray of his chest
CAT Scan of his brain
CAT Scan of his chest
MRI of his chest
MRI of his hips
Numerous Blood Work
Spinal Tap
and we finished with a Muscle Biopsy

There were many speculations of what might be causing Connor so much pain and one of them was Gullian Barre Syndrom (GBS) due to his first symptoms showing up within a few days of his H1N1 Flu Shot.

The final Diagnosis came on January 11, 2010
-Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM)-

Dirty Girl Mud Run ... Fun and Therapy all in one :):):)

So yesterday was this long anticipated 'Dirty Girl Mud Run'. My lovely friend Anne Begley talked me into it and how happy I am that I joined this wonderful group of five women to race in support of Breast Cancer.

There was so much Camaraderie, Laughter and Friendship, even thought most of us only knew one or two of the group, well except Anne who of course knew everyone ;)
I admit I figured it be about the same as the Color Run, expect we would be getting muddy instead of colorful. Trust me, by comparing the two this one was by far harder and tougher on the body!
There were so many obstacles we had to crawl through (Mud) about 4 or 5 times. Climb over Walls, climb over a robe obstacle, huge tires, jump over haystacks and possibly I am forgetting a few.... - oh yes! We had to run about 300 meters through deep sand, now having wet and muddy shoes on that hardly wanted to leave the ground this might have been my hardest obstacle to over come of all - haha
Truly, the mud was also something else, thick with rocks and poky things inside. My 41 year old body came home with cuts, bruises and a couple of splinters ... and of course VERY dirty cloths. BUT in all strange ness I am counting on doing it again :) I just figure I have to get some motivation from Dana and workout more - haha

My three men had a fabulous time at the movies, watching Nemo again in 3D this time around. They wanted to stop at Bierwerks afterwards but it was packed due to the Oktoberfest in WP so they headed home.
I on the other hand got a nice ice cold beer right after our run, Thanks to the people that sponsor this race!!!! Every runner over 21 got one free alcoholic beverage and if that was not motivation enough for this German then I am not sure what is ... oh yes ... CHOCOLATES would have been great as well :)

So Thank You to this amazing group of women for letting me join you :)
See you all next year again :)

Hugs,

R A C A
